Shows what metadata an image is carrying, then removes it. Camera make and model, the software that edited it, the date it was taken, embedded comments, and GPS coordinates.
It does not go through a canvas. Nearly every browser-based metadata remover redraws the image and re-encodes it, which quietly costs you a generation of quality to delete a few hundred bytes. This rebuilds the container instead and leaves the compressed picture data byte for byte identical. The image you get back is the image you put in, minus the bookkeeping.
A phone writes the coordinates of the place a photograph was taken into the file, by default, and those coordinates travel with it. If somebody photographs a piece of equipment on a plant floor and that image goes into a course that leaves your organization, the site location goes with it. This flags that explicitly rather than listing it among the other tags.
It handles JPEG, PNG and WebP. GIF is detected and refused rather than mangled. The colour profile is kept by default, because an ICC profile is not personal data and removing it can shift how the image looks, which is a change nobody asked for.
