A Storyline project is a zip archive, and the closed captions are already inside it as ordinary WebVTT files. This opens the archive, works out which slide each caption belongs to, gives it a name you can read, and hands you the lot as a single download. You can also take them one at a time.
Storyline exports captions one slide at a time. On a twenty-seven-slide course with fifty-one audio tracks, that is fifty-one trips through the same dialog. People have been asking for a bulk option in the Articulate community since 2018, on a thread that has run to forty replies without one arriving.
The usual reason to want it is translation. You are sending captions to a vendor, or bringing translated ones back, and the first step is getting them all out of the file.
Inside the project the captions are named things likeR6As3dNdEv0G.vtt, which tells you nothing. Each one comes out numbered by its position in the course and named after its slide, so04-Working-Conditions.vttrather than a string of characters. Where a slide has several audio tracks, they are numbered in order. A caption that no slide claims, usually one left behind on a deleted slide, still comes out, marked unassigned, because losing a file you might need is worse than an untidy name.
It reads Storyline projects only, not published output. It does not put captions back into a file, which is the other half of the translation round trip and needs Storyline itself. And it exports what is there: if a track never had captions added, there is nothing in the file to export, and the count here will be lower than your number of audio tracks.
